- Maria's headstone reads "Eich". This will be taken as the correct spelling.

- Mornington Township is northwest of Waterloo County in Perth County. Millbank is in Mornington Township.
Sam and Mary LinderThis picture comes to us from Wawota Saskatchewan, where Sam's brother William moved. The names "Sam and Mary Linder" are written on the back. There are several Mary Linders to chose from: Mary Ann Linder (sister-in-law and wife of George H), Mary Linder Gowing (sister), Mary Thom Linder (2nd wife) and Maria Eich (1st wife). As a guess, the woman in this picture must be Sam's first wife Maria. Death of Maria
Maria Linder died without warning on Tuesday April 17, 1917. It is recorded in the Ontario Death Archive of 1917 (#032099) under the name of Maria Lindner:
Name: Lindner, Maria Age: 46 yrs, 7 ms, 11 days Date: Apr 17th, 1917 Born: Millbank, Ont Died: Kitchener Burial: Kitchener Occ: Housewife, married Father: Martin Eick Mother: Lizzie Siegner Cause: Apoplexy Physician: J.E. Hett, Kitchener Apr 17th, 1917Maria's obituary and a followup were printed in The News Record on the same day (page 7) and on Friday April 20 (page 7):
Sudden Death of Mrs. Samuel Lindner.
There passed from life to death this morning Mrs. Lindner wife of Mr Samuel Lindner of 63 Wilhelm street.
Mrs. Lindner had not been sick [--] last evening she was out visiting a sick neighbor and returned about ten o'clock. As she was undressing to retire she suffered a paralytic stroke followed by a hemorrhage in the head. A physician was called at once but she only lived until six o'clock this morning and was unconscious from the time the attack came.
Mrs. Lindner was about 47 years of age and leaves a sorrowing husband and nine children to mourn her sudden death. She was born in Millbank on 27th August 1870 and thus was 46 years 7 months and 2 days old. Her maiden name was Maria Eich. Mrs. Lindner was a member of the English Lutheran church. Her funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The sympathy of all who knew her will be extended to the bereaved family.
Mrs. Linder's Funeral
There was quite a large attenancel[?] at Mrs. Samuel Linder's funeral yesterday afternoon. It was conducted by Rev. Mr. Behrens [--] the pallbearers were Messrs Weber, Faber, Eick, Krueger, Shanks and Treblecock. Many wreaths of flowers were sent by sorrowing relatives and friends. They were conveyed to the grave in a special rig. Among the friends from a distance were: Mrs. Eick (her mother), Mrs. Wrong and Mrs. Johnson of Listowel; Mr. and Mrs. George Eick and Mrs. Gowin[g] of Milverton; Mr. Irvin Seigner of Stratford; Mr. Fred Seigner of Tavistock; Mr. Louis Seigner of New Hamburg; Mr. George Linder and damily[sic]; Mr. John Lindner and family and others of Elmira.![]()
- Her obituary is consistent and always spells the last name incorrectly as LindNer. The writeup after the funeral only misspells it once for brother-in-law John.
